Shah congratulates J&K police

New Delhi, Jan 26 (UNI) Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday congratulated the Jammu and Kashmir police for winning the highest number of gallantry medals this year. The J&K Police got 115 out of 189 Police Medal for Gallantry given this year. "J&K Police has been the spearhead of India's fight against terrorism. It is a matter of immense pride to the entire nation, that the @JmuKmrPolice has won the largest share, 115, of the gallantry awards today on Republic Day. This reflects their valour and commitment," Home Minister Amit Shah said in a tweet. "I congratulate all Jammu & Kashmir Police personnel on this momentous achievement and salute their bravery. PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji led central government stands committed to recognising and honouring our brave police personnel," he said. He also paid tribute to ASI Babu Ram, who was posthumously awarded Ashok Chakra, India's highest peacetime military decoration. "I bow to ASI Babu Ram's unparalleled valour and sacrifice for which he was awarded the 'Ashok Chakra' this Republic Day. His name will remain a source of inspiration not only for the forces but for all Indians," Shah said. "ASI Babu Ram was a member of the Jammu & Kashmir Police police team that launched an intelligence based operation against a group of terrorists on the outskirts of Srinagar, J&K. He led from the front and made the supreme sacrifice in the operation in which three terrorists were neutralised," Shah said. President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday presented Ashok Chakra to ASI Babu Ram's widow Rina Rani and son Manik ahead of the Republic Day parade.
